YouTube Analytics Tool released

youtube_insight.gifFinally, we have some answers. Today we’re releasing YouTube Insight, a free tool that enables anyone with a YouTube account to view detailed statistics about the videos that they upload to the site. For example, uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time. You can also delve deeper into the lifecycle of your videos, like how long it takes for a video to become popular, and what happens to video views as popularity peaks.

How does this help you? Well, using these metrics, you can increase your videos’ view counts and improve your popularity on the site. For instance, you might learn that your videos are most popular on Wednesdays, that you have a huge following in Spain, or that new videos that play off previous content become more popular more quickly. With this information, you can concentrate on creating compelling new content that appeals to your target audiences, and post these videos on days you know these viewers are on the site. (Maybe even post your next video in Spanish?) And for those of you who are also partners, the more popular a video is, the more advertising revenue it can generate.

We’ll be making new features and additional information available fairly quickly — like a specific breakdown of how viewers discovered the video — so keep an eye out as we roll out new features.

South Park for all!

OK, after the XP SP3 post, time for something that brings a smile: South Park.

south_park_wow.jpgAfter years of encouraging their fans to share “South Park,” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have set up a viable alternative to the mass YouTube-based distribution of popular clips from the hit show: They’re just going to give the whole thing away on SouthParkStudios.com.

“We got really sick of having to download our own show illegally all the time, so we gave ourselves a legal alternative,” the duo quipped in a statement.

The site offers every “South Park” episode including the current one, which stays live for a week after its airdate and then goes dark for the rest of the month, at which point it is added to the site’s back catalog.

How could anyone possibly ban this body… err.. ad?

YouTube Preview Image

Give me a break. I’ve seen more nudity in a Walmart Superstore and I have to tell you, the quality wasn’t anywhere near as good.

Alicia Silverstone is too hot for TV – in Houston, that is.

The actress shed her clothes for a PETA ad championing vegetarianism set to debut in Texas Wednesday, but Comcast Cable pulled the 30-second spots from the airwaves.

In the commercial, Silverstone, 30, steps out of a swimming pool, unclothed and sharing the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle…

According to reports, the PETA ads will still run on television in Dallas.

and.. on men’s computers everywhere - for a few minutes anyway until we get bored.

Youtube video of Patton on modern times

YouTube Preview Image

Recent popular Youtube submission likely to get one’s blood pumped one way or the other. Timeless truthsayer, disillusioned dinosaur… your call. From a technical aspect, it’s a decent production. Matching the lips a bit more to the speech would have been nice. Speaking of speech, the voice acting was excellent.

Anyway, let me hear from you. It’s been fairly quiet so I’m throwing a little red meat out there. Type your minds but please keep it civil and be reasoned in your thought, whatever your perspective.

US Troops overseas can no longer visit YouTube and MySpace

The policy is being implemented to protect information and reduce drag on the department’s networks, according to Bell.

“This recreational traffic impacts our official DoD network and bandwidth ability, while posing a significant operational security challenge,” the memo said

…Iraqi insurgents or their supporters have been posting videos on YouTube at least since last fall, and the Army recently began posting videos on YouTube showing soldiers defeating insurgents and befriending Iraqis.

But the new rules mean many military personnel won’t be able to watch those videos - at least not on military computers.

…The sites covered by the ban are the video-sharing sites YouTube, Metacafe, IFilm, StupidVideos and FileCabi; social networking sites MySpace, BlackPlanet and Hi5; music sites Pandora, MTV, 1.fm and live365; and the photo-sharing site Photobucket.

Several companies have instituted similar bans, saying recreational sites drain productivity.

Thailand The Latest Country To Ban Entire YouTube Over Single Video

In a story that sounds nearly identical to Turkey’s decision to ban all of YouTube after some annoying kids made a prank video making fun of the country’s founder, the Thai government has now banned all of YouTube as well, due to an equally silly video making fun of the country’s King. Thailand’s minister of information and technology said that the people behind YouTube "are abusing their rights and clearly don’t mean well for the country." For someone who’s in charge of information and technology, you’d think he’d understand that that problem isn’t with YouTube — but with those creating and uploading the video. Also, of course, for a country that’s so worried about some silly video offending its king, they just got some prankster’s video a ton of press all over the world when it otherwise would have been ignored. So, let’s sum up the results: people in Thailand no longer have access to the rest of YouTube thanks to one pointless video. The video itself is probably available in a bunch of other places for folks in Thailand to see if they want it. At the same time, lots of other people are now getting to see this video (which is still on YouTube) thanks to all the press hype this has caused. None of this, you’ll note, does anything to protect the reputation of the King or help the people of Thailand, which is supposedly why they did it. So what’s the point again?
