YouTube Preview ImageSilver Spring, MD JUNE 17, 2009 – The U.S. Army today launched America’s Army 3, the only action game that delivers an authentic and entertaining Army experience by reflecting the training, technology, actions, and career advancement of a Soldier within an exciting, free game experience. Players can download the teen-rated game from Steam (http://www.americasarmy.com/steam/), as well as from partners listed at the America’s Army website (http://www.americasarmy.com). As with previous versions of America’s Army, AA3 will be constantly updated to include new features and missions and to highlight new technologies being incorporated in today’s Army.

In America’s Army 3, Every Detail Counts and as a result, the game has more authentic military elements including training, technology, weapons, and audio than any other military game. Built on Unreal Engine 3, AA3 delivers stunningly realistic environments, lighting effects, animations, and team-based experiences so that America’s Army players can experience how Soldiers train, live, and advance in the Army. Players are bound by Rules of Engagement (ROE) and gain experience as they navigate challenges in team-based, multiplayer, force-on-force operations. In the game, a player’s actions and demonstrated Army values are integral to successful mission accomplishment and affect a player’s career progression.

The game is launching with five different environments, each with three different mission scenario options for a total of 15 different map/mission combinations. Initially, the core of the gameplay focuses on an Infantry Soldier (11B). Players first complete Basic Combat Training and then progress to Advanced Individual Training for a variety of specialized roles that the Infantry Soldier performs, such as Advanced Rifleman, Automatic Rifleman, Squad Designated Marksman, and Grenadier. This advanced training allows players to unlock new abilities and gear, customize their gear and equipment loads, increase their in-game skill level, and progress in their Army careers.

Slightly older news but it’s something to post with the new trailer:

- Scott Miller (3D Realms Co-founder) says Duke might make it this year.

- 3DR faced the problems of trying to grow large enough to maintain three simultaneous internal projects while developing DNF, and it threw the company back–some shit got canned, and other shit was either set aside or given to third party developers.

- 12 years of development went towards interactive environments that their game engine was not mature enough to handle, so the code was rewritten resulting in a series of complications which produced further setbacks.

- Scott Miller says they’ve finally achieved their goal of creating a “super-interactive” game environment.

- 3DR won’t disclose how many employees they have, but they hired a crap-load of new talent after–and this is what the article says–firing half its employees. That’s interesting, because I had the notion they left on their own–but I’ll leave it at that because I don’t want to start any drama.

- Apparently Bombshell (which was one of the three stand-alone game projects 3DR was working on) is now integrated into DNF. Miller isn’t quoted on the confirmation, but the article says she’s part of the Duke universe as Duke’s action-female counterpart.

- Scott jokes about Duke dying in the end, and goes on to say most of the weapons from Duke3D are back in DNF. Also, Duke is still a controversial character because the company is trying to retain his bad-ass image.

- The entire game is narrated through the first-person view; Duke’s now off duty in Las Vegas where he kicks back at his casino, the “Lady Killer,” which is then raided by aliens.

- Scott admits the project’s come along roughly, but once again uses his “end of the tunnel” metaphor to say the game might finally be on the right track. 2008, here we come.

requiem_bloodmare.jpgGravity Interactive have released the official trailer for their upcoming “M” rated horror themed MMO Requiem: Bloodymare. Although still excited about this title, I am a bit disappointed that the trailer does not depict the blood and gore they have promised us. The screenshots they sent us last week looked so promising – full of decapitations, fountains of blood gushing forth from your foes, scantily clad drowish looking creatures, and disgusting monsters hell-bent on devouring your person. Why in the world did they not show this in the trailer? There is hardly anything shown in this video that warrants and “M” rating – you see tons of magic and hit effects flying about, and maybe once in a while a few blood droplets hit the camera – but that is it. Instead of a gratuitous blood soaked fightfest we get a video that is a bit blurry, the colors are washed out and the action happens so fast that one can scarcely blink lest something is missed.

Hopefully the next trailer they send us will be much better than this one – and by “better” I am hoping that it shows brighter colors, better editing, and more blood.

It seems Blizzard has a new celebrity featured in their newest WoW commercial. Vern Troyer (of Mini-Me fame) plays WoW and shares a sneak peek in the video below at his character — which looks a LOT like him btw!
